Treatments for Actinic Keratosis

Actinic keratosis is like a wart, so it can also be removed like a wart.

•    Cryosurgery involves the exposure of affected area to temperature extremes, specifically cold, commonly with liquid nitrogen. Once the AK is frozen, it would be easier to take it off.

•    Electrocautery is just like cryosurgery, in this case, electricity is used to burn off actinic keratosis.
•    Laser surgeries for AK is very effective.

•    Although Aldara is intended for genital warts, it could work for AK as well. It is classified as an immune response modifier drug.

•    5 Flouracil is also used for cancer treatment. It is an emulsion, usually in cream form that is applied to the AK to make it fall off by itself.

Treatments for Keratosis Pilaris

KPs make skin appear like a dressed chicken skin, although this is not always the case. They are sometimes confused with for acne. Although there is no established cure for KP yet, it can be improved through the following procedures.

•    The acid form of vitamin A can aid in KP’s improvement. This kind of treatment is also used for acne. It also stimulates the outer layer of skin to grow faster so that the amount of keratin on skin will be reduced.   There will be less chances of acquiring KP if hair follicles would not get clogged.

•    Adapelene is a retinoid which moderates keratinization. It also has exfoliating properties.

Treatments for Seborrheic Keratosis

Seborrheic keratosis and actinic keratosis are almost the same, but in this case seborrheic keratosis is fatty. Although it is not a great health hazard, it could damage one’s self esteem. So the treatments for this include:

•    Cryotherapy is also used for SK cases.

•    Curette is used on SK in a process called curettage. The SK is scraped off, but SK can come back if there are no other sorts of treatment applied with it.

•    Seborrheic keratosis can also be removed through laser treatments.
•    Another variety of SK treatment is electrocautery, which is also combined with curettage.
