I have been to a bunch of scrapbooking events and socials. When speaking to avid scrapbooking fans, I have met one or two that hadn’t even considered using free scrapbooking layouts ( some failed to even know they existed ).

I am not sure why this is the case, but there are a bunch of reasons you should look at using a free layout for your next scrapbook:

1. Obviously it will cost a lot less.

We are not all made from money and if you can get something for free why would you not? To me, it makes no sense to purchase a layout when you can get free scrapbooking layouts. I have seen some scrapbooking layouts cost as much as $30 per layout! I am pretty sure that was not the most costly one around either! I’m not saying you shouldn’t buy another layout, heck if I find the ideal layout I will happily put down the money. However , if all of your trying to find is a straightforward layout, there are a considerable number of free ones that are quite as good as the ones you can purchase.

two. You can change it if there is something you are not happy with.

When I buy a scrapbook layout, its sometimes because I suspect its ‘perfect ‘. However , there are times when its close to what I need, though not exactly what I desire. If I get adventurous and try and change the layout, there it an opportunity I’ll spoil it. If you download free scrapbooking layouts, you can print, use and edit them as much as you like. If you screw up, just print another one easy as that. No more troubling about how much it’ll cost if you screw up!

3. It’s truer to the original concept of scrapbooking.

Scrapbooking originally was done by people who had little money. In the times of old, pics were expensive and having enough to fill an album was out of the question! People would collect bits of ribbon, string and other memoribilia and make lovely arrangements of these scrap pieces in a book Therefore scrapbooking! They might be distressed at the prospect of buying new things to put into their book.

Four. The layouts are easily as good as the paid ones.

Thats right! some people have a stigma about free things and scrappers are no exception. There is a belief that if its free, its probably a bad design that would not sell. This is a myth that has to be put to rest right now. I’ve seen some free scrapbooking layouts that are much better than ones I paid for during the past. Take a look I am sure you’ll be slightly taken aback.

Five. Self Satisfaction.

I do not know about you, but when I find some way to make something and save money in the process, I am getting a little swelling of pride in my chest accompanied by a sense of self satisfaction. This will add a pleasant little glow to the sensation of accomplishment when you finish your next scrapbook.

Next time you start up a scrapbook and are thinking of layouts, be sure to cast your eye over some of the free layouts before going straight towards the paid ones you may just find exactly what you are looking for. You have nothing to lose and money to save!

Aside from the album itself, other major considerations in album scrapbooking is the space or room and the supplies you’ll be needing such as:

- stickers that come in various themes, designs, colors, and sizes which are great but inexpensive and very fun and easy to use

- tags that can be used as major decorations

- cut-outs and punch-outs which are usually tags, alphabet letters, and laser lace borders that are used to decorate the page

- paper embellishments which are usually perforated so you can use them anywhere in the scrapbook,

- punches which are tools used to punch shapes out of paper that come in shapes of all sizes

- embellishments such as buttons, fibers or fancy yarns and threads, metal accents, beads, craft wire and fabric ribbon roses that are safely be used on any scrapbook page

- chalk or decorative chalks that come in a set with various colors and applicators perfect for shading and highlighting an album page

- eyelets which are great for attaching vellum to paper, for decorating a photo mat or for making a border and which also come in different sizes, colors and shapes

- rubber stamps that are very versatile and can be used for different purposes such as in card making

- die-cuts which are paper shapes made from that come in all sorts of colors and themes; embossed paper charms and

- templates which are ideal for unique embellishments that will make your album scrapbook great.

Learning to make a scrapbook using these materials is just a start of your fun and enjoyable journey in the world of scrapbooking!
