Here Is How You Can Cut Your Own Shapes To Create Embellishments

Sunday, November 6th, 2011

And so you are looking for the simplest way to cut out your scrapbook designs? Thank goodness there are Scrapbook Die Cuts and Die Cut Machines which can help. There are plenty of embellishments that are able to be acquired but it is excellent to create your own embellishments with a die cut. A number of the machines absolutely are a little bit high in cost if you don’t do a large amount of scrapbooking. If you don’t scrapbook routinely, you may wish to participate in a scrapbook crop at which you might use the machines they supply. With most scrapbook events you will discover that they will likely have got a fabulous Cricut machine in addition to a number of sorts of die cutting machines for everyone to operate. Making use of the machines is normally part of the package price. So, you should not expect to have to drop out extra hard earned cash for using the particular machines.

One thing which may suprise you is all of the many types of material that one could cut with a die cut machine. There is actually canvas, pressboard, skinny paper, thick cardstock and even several thin metals. I have viewed a variety of several projects where people have cut soup cans and made concepts using die cuts. They will flatten out the can utilizing a mallet and subsequent to the metal is flat, it will be sent into the strong die cut machine. So now you must realize the recommendations on the machine may say to never cut metal and they are right. The metal can break the die cut and you have got to realize that while experimenting with things such as this. So, please no emails telling me that you shattered your die cut or the machine because I am advising you that it will be very possible that you can break your equipment.

I am intending to look for various other cool ideas which may well be done by using a die cut machine and will write-up the best tips next week.

Arts And Crafts Thought: Foam Sheet Glasses Case

Easy Arts & Crafts Projects for Kids : Christmas & Holiday Arts & Crafts Projects for Kids

Are you a camp director, teacher, or homeschool mom trying to find a new arts and crafts idea for your kids?  Or maybe you might be a recreation director at a senior center or nursing home and could use a new project.  Either way, this arts and crafts thought might be interesting and fun for all.  This glass case may be used, given as a gift, or converted into a necklace purse.

To make the glasses case, you may require the following simple materials:  a square of craft foam, plastic or big blunt needles, lanyard lace or thick yarn.  Cut two rectangles from the foam, each 3-1/2 inches (9 cm.) by 6 inches (15 cm.).  Having a hole punch, make holes on three sides of each rectangle, leaving 1 short side unpunched.  Make the holes 1/2 inch apart and enable at least 1/4 inch between the hole as well as the edge of the craft foam.  The holes have to line up so that the two pieces may be laced together.  If you’re preparing the craft for small kids, you need to make the holes your self.  Otherwise, the crafters can do this step when you have enough pairs of hole punches.

At this point the crafters can cut decorative shapes from other colors of craft foam, or you can invest in sets of ready-cut foam shapes.  If you are doing the craft at a unique event, like vacation Bible school, pick out shapes that echo the theme of the event.  For example, if the Bible school or camp has a cowboy theme, uncover shapes that fit nicely, including boots, cowboy hats, and stars.  Let the kids select the shapes they like and glue on as desired.  You might also like to offer beads or sequins to glue on also, particularly if the crafters are a little older.

The next step in this arts and crafts concept would be to thread the plastic needle with the yarn or lanyard lace.  Yarn could possibly be somewhat less complicated to manage, but lanyard lace is shiny and appealing.  In a pinch, some teachers of little young children use a bobby pin as a needle.  It really is absolutely a secure alternative.  Just loop the yarn through the opening and use the open end of the bobby pin as if it were the point of the needle.  The kids can now start to lace the front and back of the glasses case together.

To turn this arts and crafts notion into a necklace purse, simply attach a piece of lanyard lace to each and every corner producing a lengthy manage.  Children will delight in employing this case as a location to store secret notes and smaller objects.  If they’d rather, they can give the glasses case to a parent, grandparent, or friend who wears glasses.  Either way, this arts and crafts concept will likely be fascinating for all.

3 Quick Hints For A Great Scrapbooking Experience

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

A couple weeks ago I’d get the creeps whenever I entered my scrapbooking space. From experience I knew that whenever I actually try to do serious work, something goes wrong. Most of the time I couldn’t find a tool or I ruined a cut as I tried to lift it off the cutting mat.

I know, these all are but little annoyances but they add up quickly and snowball into one big frustration. And when you’re frustrated your creativity goes down the drain and you have no chance of getting into the Zone.

Then I decided to sit down and really think about how this stuff comes to happen anyway. I got to work on my process before I did the actual work – and now I look forward to my scrapbooking every time!

Here are my three very best tips for a productive scrapbooking session:

Tip #1 – Design Your Workplace With Intention

Take a blank piece of paper and divide it into two sections for two lists. On the first list write down everything you use and in which frequency you need it. On the second list write down the different techniques and methods you use and which tools you need for them.

Then consciously design your space kind of like an office. Put everything in place so you can sit down and get right to work!

Tip #2 – Use Good Tools

Words cannot describe how much help a good set of tools is.

I recommend the Cricut essentials tool kit even if you don’t own a pricey Cricut cutting machine.

Tip #3 – Have A Finishing Routine

Write down a little routine you might use for wrapping up a session. As you put your stuff away, write down any materials that you have to buy. If you don’t do it now, you will surely forget!

If you use just these three tips from now on, your projects will be much more enjoyable. Especially the first one has done it for me.

Data Related to Scrapbooking Pages that You Need to Know

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

The success of scrapbooking pages very much depends on photo layout, journaling and various decorations. Scrapbooks preserve memories in a very special way, telling the story of an event. And the truth is that scrapbooks are closer to one’s heart than any other album. And even if beginning scrapbookers often lack the inspiration for their first page and they are simply at a loss about where to start, things will get much cleared the moment they view some examples of scrapbooking pages.

Decide on the theme of a certain album, and then move on to work on the full album concept. The title page and the journaling part will introduce any viewer to the topic that you’ve chosen. The viewer thus makes an idea about what he or she is about to see. Title scrapbooking pages usually contain one or two photos that are considered the most relevant for the entire album. Choose these pics really carefully because they are like the synthesis of the message that you want to send.

Some scrapbooking pages are adjustable meaning that you can add them even when the album is complete, while other scrapbooks are bound into a final form and do not allow for later modifications. It is really nice to have enough flexibility to add some more scrapbooking pages when the story is incomplete, and it remains to be continued later. All of the scrapbooking pages have to follow a common decorative style, either using the same embellishments or something pretty similar, so that there are no style discrepancies.

The paper or the digital background that you use of the scrapbooking pages need to complete the theme of the album, either by mirroring or adding depth to it. Consider the primary and the secondary colors in the photos, because if you pay attention to such details, your scrapbooking pages will look unitary, giving the impression of artistic achievement. Moreover, this adds a really nice dimension to the project.

The focus needs to remain on the photos even if you add lots of embellishments; decorations have to complement the pics not vice versa. Scrapbooking pages therefore require a certain balance in theme expression and background. Moreover, there should be a dominant style unifying all.

Scrapbooking Techniques: The Greatest Directions in Having a Wonderful Scrapbooking

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

There are many variations between the different scrapbooking techniques. Some of the more complex scrapbooking techniques could actually be out of your range. With new trends there always come design challenges; thus, try your hand at the more accessible projects and if scrapbooking proves a hobby with a growing importance for you, then your albums will get more and more complex, as times passes by.

One of the most common scrapbooking techniques relies on paper tearing and it is mainly used to add texture to layouts. Project objectives influence the choice of the technique in most cases. You’ll have to match the rough sides and the smooth sides well in context so that they do not give the impression of negligence. Then, all sorts of materials and supplies are necessary for putting into practice the scrapbooking techniques that you have in mind.

You could use brads, photo corners, prints, ribbons, rubbers, borders and designs of different shapes, colors and sizes because they emphasize the photos, they enhance the message and create a really nice artistic effect. The main condition you have to meet here is to balance all the decorations so that they do not over-power the photographs. The embellishments can be tied, attached, hung, glued or mounted in the album but that varies from case to case.

There are similarities between traditional album making and digital scrapbooking techniques. With digital programs, you can create the scrapbooks only with the help of special softwares. Normally, there are help and tutorial sections for every scrapbooking program you can access on the Internet.

Finding information about scrapbooking techniques is no longer a problem thanks to the available Internet resources. In fact there is no better way to stimulate your imagination than to check a list with suggested sketches and scrapbooking techniques. Sometimes you just need to read the instructions to know what to do.

Online tips and suggestions for scrapbooking techniques do not address the needs of amateurs only. They are also useful for more skilled and experienced scrapbookers that have taken this hobby to a certain professional level. In fact, the ultra-modern scrapbooking trends can only be applied by experienced designers. Yet, everybody’s free to try their limits!

Rubber Stamps: Marking History

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Rubber stamps have an especially fascinating history.

Do you know that rubber stamps were provoked by dentures? It's true! What happened was, first Charles Goodyear had to discover the process of vulcanization.

He was the one that discovered how it's possible to cure rubber. In its natural state, rubber isn't really practicable to work with ; it's sticky and doesn't stay set in a selected shape. With vulcanization discovered, folk could mildew rubber as they wish and, once cooled, the vulcanized rubber would hold its new shape. Many applications were so found for rubber ( poor Mr. Goodyear, actually, didn't benefit financially from his invention though he was in public recognized by the Emperor of France and decorated with highly celebrated gongs ). One of those was dentures. Rubber was discovered to be a most welcome replacement for the dentures of that time, which were frequently made out of metal or perhaps wood! Dentists were making their own dentures, and one of those dentists, it finally turned out, had a curious nephew who started producing rubber stamps for the U.S. Postal Service. This nephew, James Woodruff, is credited with inventing the quality rubber stamp we have come to understand. There are, in fact many various origins for rubber stamps, dependent on precisely how a rubber stamp is to be outlined, with some stretching back to Mayan civilization! The version just presented here is among the most generally accepted ones for those marking devices which we today would most right away recognize as being rubber stamps.

Another extremely popular and commonly accepted contender for the title of Inventor of The Rubber Stamp was L.F. Witherell, who even wrote a paper saying the respect, titled How I Came to find out the Rubber Stamp. he told to have got inspiration from his work as a foreman at a wooden pump producing facility. Seemingly, there had been an identification marking problem of some sort where the paint would run, making smears on these pumps. Witherell hit on the concept of making stencils out of thin sheets of rubber packing.

But while making the stencil, he then thought to just create thick letters out of the rubber and fasten then to a chunk of wood, which he probably did, therewith making an impression of his very own initials. The applicant considered most unlikely to be the inventor of rubber stamps, Henry C. Leland, was basically stood up for, ironically, at the time by no aside from in a controversy of the Stamp Trade Reports from a producer of rubber stamps. But whatever the origins, there is little doubt the rubber stamp itself has left quite an impression on our lives.

Scrapbooking Graduation Memories

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

Graduation makes a great theme for scrapbooking. This kind of scrapbook could be started years before the graduation or just a few months ahead of the event. As an ongoing project, it could be something you use to record all the school years’ memories. You might involve your child in the creation of this book, or just make it your own special project. Your scrapbook could be created as a traditional scrapbook or you could make a digital scrapbook.

Your collection of memories will be something you and your child can enjoy for years to come. Recording the trials and tribulations, as well as the special moments along the way will help make this a treasured memory book.

There are some pre-designed scrapbook papers with a graduation theme. Use clip art or other pictures by printing them for use as embellishments. Be sure to use an appropriate type of glue (archival and acid free paper or adhesives protect the photos and other elements from deteriorating).

Addition of your child’s hobbies, clubs, scouting information, special awards, favorite sports, favorite foods or other personal details is a good start. Possible other additional documents to include are awards and report cards or copies of them. Photos, notes or any other memorabilia from friends and family would be nice to add. Those hopes and dreams you have never shared with your child could be included as personal, handwritten notes. Scanning items such as these would be ideal if you plan to make a digital scrapbook.

Other ideas: Add school photos from each year of middle or high school. School dances or prom mementos. Embellish the pages with graduation stickers to add more interest. Dedicate a page for each year, such as: freshman, sophomore, junior and senior. Die cuts can be used to add interest to your pages. You can find die cuts or paper shapes with pictures and themes that illustrate hobbies, sports, or music, and use them as scrapbook embellishments. These can be bought at art, craft and scrapbook supply stores.)

You can also leave room for candid photos of the graduation ceremony, parties, or events held before the graduation. Save space for graduation announcements or invitations to the event. Under the photos, add captions or other descriptions and notes.

Pick out a nice binder or scrapbook album to keep the graduation scrapbook pages in. Be sure the album you plan to use will have room for all of your school memorabilia including, awards, copies of report cards or school photos.

After graduation, when the diploma arrives, you might include a copy of it in the album. It’s worth remembering, so plan your graduation album and keep it up-to-date. This makes a great present, as well as a lasting memory book about a graduation from middle school, high school or college. And those memories are the kind you want to keep and share forever.

A Short Intro On Knitting Yarn For Hobbyist

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

All sorts of materials can become knitting yarn as long as they have the right size and length to be knitted by hand, loom or knitting machine; here we should mention cotton, wool, ribbon, string and all sorts of artificial fibers. The aspect to keep in mind before selecting the knitting yarn is that this item gives the features of the knitted object. You should ask yourself questions about the level of  formality, the type of weather you want the knitted piece to go for and the need for washability. This means that the right knitting yarn triggers the level of success or failure in a knitting project, although there are other factors at work too.

First of all, knitting yarn comes in different sizes and shapes, not to mention the fact that the origin of the material is equally important. Thus, animal-based fibers such as wool are great for their warmth and durability. This means that such knitting yarn works great for sweaters, shawls, baby blankets, gloves, hats and socks. In summertime cotton and other plant fibers make the knitting yarn suitable to make very breathable fabric.

Other variants of knitting yarn that can be highly reliable and easy to use are nylon and polyester; they offer the advantage of being suitable for more fashionable clothes, but will never work for baby clothes. Only cotton and linen are suitable to come into contact with the sensitive baby skin. Then, another serious word of advice to consider here is the quality of the knitting yarn that is most often relevant in the color difference. You definitely need to make sure that the yarn you purchase belongs to the same dye lot and that there are no variations whatsoever.

Knitting yarn comes in a variety of thicknesses otherwise known as weights. Aran yarn works as the standard weight and it proves perfect for basic knitting patterns and hats. Any knitting yarn type thicker than Aran is usually good for heavy jumpers and usually requires the use of very thick needles. On the other hand, knitting yarn types thinner than the standard include the double-knit and the four-ply yarns. The former is good for children’s clothing and socks whereas the latter is remarkable by the fine size ideal for elegant items.

A Short Intro On Knitting Patterns For Hobbyist

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

Nice knitting patterns, good yarn, exquisite items, all these are generally meant to express one’s personality in the finest way particularly when knitting is a hobby dear to one’s heart. In order to try something new, you can always search for inspiration and knitting patterns in books and magazines available online. If you are taking the first knitting lessons, then, go for the easiest patterns that present the highest degree of success for your skill. Things can get a lot clearer when you have access to quality informative materials with photos and comprehensive instructions. Think about the following elements whenever you take one step further in the direction of knitting evolution.

Knitting patterns cannot be discussed separately from the yarn models and features; how well do yarns match? The fact that some retailers indicate the right yarn match for specific yarn pattens is of incredible use. If you still do not find the answer with such web pages or craft stores, then, look through magazines and books for other knitting patterns to try. Once you’ve decided on the pattern, just use your imagination and creativity. What can one do more in the direction of embellishing a garment?

There are virtually limitless options to combine elements and knitting patterns to achieve original fabric. Sometimes just a few cute flower buttons or a piece of ribbon used for trimming completely change the look of the garment and contribute to enhancing the initial aesthetic effect resulting from the design. It is not compulsory to follow knitting patterns exactly, you can modify colors, stitches and anything else you feel confident to change in a good manner. Some modifications could be under your expectations, but it is good to identify the mismatch or the error and either correct it or avoid making it the next time.

Knitting patterns are in fact maps that offer the identification or decoding of knitting models. What you read in   the pattern covers everything from design, size, stitches and needles. This code could appear all very confusing to the unexperienced knitter particularly when he/she doesn’t know the meaning of the abbreviations present in most knitting patterns. Yet, with some effort to go through the instructions and determination to understand the basics of knitting, you will soon be able to decode the knitting patterns without any difficulty and get the work going.
