Some Great Gift Ideas For A New Baby

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

There are so many things that you have to get prior to your new baby arriving. So if you are debating the possibilities of gifts for an upcoming baby shower, or you yourself are with child, you might consider a few of these options as a sound place to begin your purchases.

With all the possibilities of purchase, you could become overwhelmed in what to start with. The below listed items are what I (and others) consider among the most important behind diapers, wipes and clothes.

The obvious starting point for this list is a crib. You have to have someplace for your newborn to sleep. This also allows for you to require them to sleep on their own (most of the time) from the day you bring them home from the hospital. You can save a little bit of money by opting to purchase a convertible baby crib, which has several practical functions once they stop needing a crib.

The second thing on this list is a bassinet. This allows the baby to be close to you while it rests throughout the day. This is also a great asset towards promoting the baby to think independently and self soothe. The beauty of a bassinet is that it is a lightweight and portable crib essentially that can be wherever it is convenient for you.

The next thing on the list is important for the safety of your child. In fact, you are not able to bring your newborn home from the hospital without a car seat. So purchasing one well before you need to is a good idea, as delivery times can be unpredictable and you don’t want to have to make a last minute pit stop at the store while you should be at the hospital. There are plenty of great brands such as Graco, Cosco and Evenflo but I personally prefer a Britax car seat.

The last item on the list is something that will save you some energy in the following weeks after delivery. Likely, it will save you energy longer than this though. A stroller is the item being discussed, and this is important to you because you can push around the child with ease instead of carrying him/her everywhere you go to show them off at. While they might only be between 6-9 lbs, even that can get heavy if you are carrying it for a while. The best stroller that I have used is a Perego stroller.

I can only hope that you have been inspired in your ideas of what to get for the new baby. All of these things are important and can look however you want them to if you look hard enough. There are no shortage of companies that make these products, and they all do them a little differently.

Convert Your Guest Room Into A Nursery

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

When you find that a baby is on the way, you are going to have to make some changes in your life. One of those changes is finding a room that will serve as a nursery for the baby. For many couples, the guest room can easily be converted to a room for the baby. Since the room already has a closet, it will make a perfect room for a child.

Often the guest room is easiest to convert to a nursery. It is already set up as a bedroom, so you will have to make few if any structural changes. Many times the room will only require a change of furniture and some furniture may be able to be reused. Anything that is not needed for the baby should go into storage, be given away or sold in order to give plenty of room for the new baby.

After you have cleared out the room, take time to examine the basics. Will the carpets need to be replaced or can they simply be cleaned and vacuumed. What about the walls. Can they be cleaned and used as they are or will you need to paint a fresh color. If there need to be these types of repairs, the easiest time to do them is when the room is empty.

Now, think about what you need in the nursery.

Of course you will want to provide a baby bed. If you are purchasing a new bed, consider one that will eventually convert to a toddler bed. Then as the new baby grows, he or she can use the same mattress and bed for several years. If you are using a used bed, make sure that it meets all the current safety requirements and is sturdy.

A Philips baby monitor will help you to hear and see into the nursery from the convenience of your own room. You will be able to hear the baby before he or she becomes too worked up and crying loudly. This will make for less stress for both the baby and the parents.

Babies tend to need lots of clothes and diapers. The dresser that was in the guest room may work, but home storage cabinets are also a great option. Diapers tend to fit better in the cabinets than in a dresser. As the child grows, the cabinets can be used for toys and other items that the child will need to store.

Since you will no longer have a guest room, you may want to make provisions for overnight guests by purchasing a sleeper sofa or an air bed. Having a new baby almost guarantees that out of town grandparents will want to visit for a sleepover.

How To Let Him Know That You Are Pregnant

Friday, April 16th, 2010

For some reason, a lot of men are scared of the idea of becoming a father. They keep on postponing the moment saying they are not ready yet. If it happens to get pregnant you need to prepare carefully the moment for telling him. Get some girl baby bedding and show them to him. He will see that there is nothing terrifying about those sweet little things.

You can’t know yet if you will have a girl or a boy. Even if he might not admit it, he would love to have a boy. They could go to football games together and be like a team. Pick from the bedding collections something for boys too.

If your husband is scared, you should not get to the conclusion that his love for you is not strong enough. He can be a perfect father. It’s important that you assure him of that. May be he is just scared that he will not be able to offer him the best. A summer baby monitor will help you both feel better. You can check on the baby all the time even when you are not in the room.

A baby will change your entire life. Nothing will be the same anymore. Take a piece of paper and a pen to build a plan. Decide together what you will do with your jobs. If you have somebody to help you, everything will be much easier. The change can be a positive thing.

Tell him that you are also scared. Together you need to be like a team. It will give him more self confidence knowing that he is not the only one scared. Even if you were not ready yet, the baby chose his moment to come into this world. The most important thing you can give him is love.

Go visit other couple with kids. This will help you prepare for the future. Let your husband talk to another young father. It will do him good to hear from another man how great it is to have a baby. He needs a man to man talk. You can also ask for advice from your friend. May be she can give you some useful tips. As you parents, you need to have other friends with children. You might no longer have so many things in common with your other friends.

A little baby is not bringing just responsibilities. He will also give you a lot of fun. A kid will make life happier. No matter how bad is your day, everything will brighten up when you will see your kid’s smile. Your house will become a happy playground. Playing together will remind you of how good it feels to be a kid.

Preparing For A Baby Boy

Friday, April 16th, 2010

Some of the things you will buy for your baby will be the same, whether you are having a girl or a boy. However, if you are going to have a boy, you can buy boy things to help make your baby’s room seem more suited to being a little boy’s room than a generic nursery in light yellows and greens.

A baby crib is often the first thing new parents buy for their new baby. It might seem like a good idea to go with a generic color like white or natural wood in case you have another child, but remember that many cribs can now be changed into toddler beds once the child is old enough. That means the first bed your little boy uses as a toddler will be the same color as his crib was. For that reason, a bright color such as dark blue, red or green makes a good choice.

For baby boy bedding, you’ll find a lot of choices in bright colors as well as light blue. Remember, these sheets will fit his toddler bed as well, so it’s good to select something he might like when he’s a bit older. Cars, trucks and trains are usually a safe bet when it comes to things little boys will like.

Baby bath toys can be a lot of fun, and there are a lot of choices available besides the typical rubber duck. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with a rubber duck, but a little boy absolutely must have some boats to play with in the tub. Try to find a good selection in bright colors. The little tyke is sure to enjoy bath time with so many wonderful toys to play with.

Now, how about a nice mobile to hang from the baby’s crib? You can get mobiles in many different styles, and some of them are brightly colored to go with the baby boy’s crib. You might find many of the same types of toys little boys like to play with hanging from a mobile, such as cars and trucks.

Of course, all babies need clothes and boys are no different. You’ll find that there is a lot of powder blue, but baby boys’ clothing is available in a wide range of colors. Since most people will buy you blue clothes for gifts, try to choose different colors. That way the little guy’s wardrobe will have more variety.

Now that you’ve got everything you need for the baby, don’t forget about painting your little boy’s room. You should try to pick a color that complements the furniture without making the room feel too dark or crowded. Lighter colors are usually best. Once you have that done, all you have to do is wait for the baby’s arrival.

Preparing For The Arrival Of Your Baby Boy

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Many baby items can work for both baby girls and baby boys, but there are a lot of things that are made especially for boys as well. Although sometimes the only difference is color, if you know that you are having a boy, you can purchase baby items intended especially for boys. This will help keep the nursery from being just a baby area and make it more like a little boy’s room.

The first place to start is with the baby crib. For a baby boy, go with a brighter color. Sure, light blue will work if you want to go with the expected color, but primary colors are a great choice too. Red, blue, yellow or even green make great boy colors. If you get a convertible crib that can be made into a toddler bed when the child is older, having a brightly colored bed will go a long way toward making the room feel like it belongs to a little boy, rather than a baby.

Next, you’ll need some baby boy bedding for the crib. Look for fun prints with animals, cars, trucks or trains on them. The sheets and blankets you get for the baby’s crib will still fit when it comes time to switch over to a toddler bed, so choose bedding with pictures a young child will love.

Baby bath toys can be a lot of fun, and there are a lot of choices available besides the typical rubber duck. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with a rubber duck, but a little boy absolutely must have some boats to play with in the tub. Try to find a good selection in bright colors. Four Great Gift Ideas For The Expectant Mother

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

Do you need a gift for a baby shower? If so, you will find some great ideas in this article. Whether you have a large budget or small, there is an idea here that you will be able to use.

If you know the new mom will be breastfeeding, a breast pump is an excellent gift. If she plans to go back to work soon after the baby is born, she will need a pump in order to continue breastfeeding. Even if she is not planning on returning to work, a breast pump can help relieve pressure when there is too much milk in the breasts. Pumping the breasts can also help increase milk production so that there is always enough for the baby.

Of course, a double electric breast pump is the best kind, if you can afford it. With this kind of pump, the breastfeeding mother can extract milk from both sides at the same time. Battery powered pumps often don’t have enough suction, and manual pumps can make the mother’s hands or wrists sore.

For the non-breastfeeding mother, how about a gift basket filled with products to help her pamper herself? After months of not feeling very pretty, products such as scented shower gel, skin care cream and scented oil are sure to be welcome. You could also put together a manicure and pedicure kit with all of the essential tools and a nice selection of polishes.

If you want to get something for the baby instead of the mother, a bath set for the baby is a nice gift. You can fill the baby bath tub with baby oil, baby shampoo, baby powder and other necessities. This will be a very useful gift that won’t cost much to buy.

For something a little more memorable, a diaper cake is a great choice. If you have never seen a diaper cake, picture a wedding cake made by rolling diapers together to form the layers. Once you have each layer completed, secure it with a rubber band and tie a ribbon around each layer. Use a baby item to top it off and you’ve got a beautiful and practical baby gift.

Any expectant mother will be thrilled to receive these gifts, whether you decide to go with the breast pump, bath supplies or something else. No matter what you give, your friend will be grateful that you were there to help welcome her little one into the world.

Buying Stuff For The Newborn In Your Family

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

If you are a new parent, or at the very least someone you know is, you could be asking what are some things that are must haves before the baby actually arrives. The items that are listed below are not among the most obvious, and they all have merit towards making your life as a parent a little bit easier. So here goes.

While I obviously cannot begin to assume I know what you have deemed important in terms of purchases for your newborn, I can only go by what I have researched. These are usually not though about until after the baby has been in the home for a short time, and this is not the time to necessitate buying things. You want to be able to spend all the time with your infant, not pacing the aisles of your local superstore.

A breast pump is likely something you should have on your list. For starters, breast milk is the best supplement and nourishment for your newborn. In addition, it promotes brain development and a strong immune system. It is not always practical to breastfeed wherever you go though, and that is why you might benefit from a breast pump. You can save yourself some time by getting a double electric breast pump.

You might also want to consider purchasing a mobile for the crib. A lot of cribs come with one of these, but they are interchangeable. Giving your child a few options is never a bad call. You see, this is meant to entertain them as they fall asleep on their own in the crib. This is why it might benefit you to keep the process intriguing for them.

Baby bath tubs are also very important in the stages of your infant’s growth. This makes bath time a lot more fun, and more importantly, a lot safer. Safety is a huge concern for many parents. Much like anyone else, babies require baths often to keep them healthy.

Some other items that you might already know about, but really cannot have enough of are: diapers, burp cloths, baking soda powder as a safe and green diaper deodorizor and outfits. While it might seem like a no-brainer to purchase these three items, you can vastly benefit from buying them in abundance. You will find that you are using all of these throughout the day on several occasions. When you add up several uses over a week or a month, you find yourself with quite a hefty sum.

Having a new baby can be a very stressful time. That only really stresses the importance of having these important items before your new baby comes home from the hospital. While you could get along without them, you might have an easier time if you had them.
