Scrapbooking Made Easy – A Guide for Beginners

Do you love to preserve your memories?  Are you someone that has pictures of all of those precious moments sitting in a shoe box somewhere?  Are you looking for something creative to spend your free time working on? If any of those are true, you might want to think about scrapbooking as a hobby. Many people have been interested in scrapbooking in the past but have felt overwhelmed by where to begin. It is much easier than initially thought. You simply need to know what scrapbooking is, how to get started, where to get materials, and how you can get better.

What is scrapbooking?

The idea behind creating a scrapbook it to preserve your most precious memories in a way that is both interesting and creative.  Scrabooking begins with a collection of memories, photos, invites and other memorabilia. A scrapbook usually centers around a specific event such as a holiday or birthday. The difference between a scrapbook and a photo album is that the scrapbooker will actually set the photographs on a page that has been decorated with the theme or mood of the event. In a scrapbook each page has an individual feel that fits into the main theme of the book.

How to get started with scrapbooking?

Step one of any scrapbook is to collect all the photographs and memorabilia into one place. Once you have all of your memories in front of you start sorting them out. Order the materials into dates, theme, color or whatever categories make the most sense to you. After this stage is complete, take a bit of time to decide which scrapbook you would like to start with. Once this has been done, you are now really to begin. Get ahold of your preferred scrapbook and open it up. Focus on the first page before moving onto the second. Overall though, the most important part is to have fun and be creative!

Where to get scrapbooking materials?

There are a number of sources you can get scrapbooking materials from.  The obvious place is in craft stores. When you drop in, you will find a large amount of stickers and odds and ends to have a look at. Online vendors also are another great source of scrapbooking supplies. The great thing about online vendors is that typically their inventory is much larger. Stores are good, but you can also find great scrapping material in your home or office. Take a look at what you have around the house because that extra construction paper and glitter may come in handy.

How to improve?

The great thing about scrapbooking is that you can always get better. There are a heap of tutorials and resources available via the web. However, if you do better in person then you might want to look into some of the scrapbooking classes that are offered at your local craft store or parks and recreation department. If classes aren’t your style, scrapbooking clubs are also quite a popular place to pass along ideas and show your scrapbooks to others.
