Party 101: Create a Budget Graduation Bash They’ll All Remember
There’s no question that it’s a special occasion when a friend or family member graduates. That’s probably why there are now even pre-school graduation celebrations. I was shocked to see this when my now-six-year-old nephew was ready to leave pre-school last year. But I guess if that helps promote the love of learning, they’re worthwhile exercises. And it sure makes for some adorable photo opps!
When older people graduate, however, it’s genuinely a big event. Not only does the graduate get to move on, but often an insanely large amount of money or at least time has been spent to reach that goal. That often means there’ll be a graduation party thrown to celebrate. If you have a loved one graduating and will be serving as party planner, here are some tips to help make your job easier and cheaper:
Make it a group project
If you’re on a tight budget, you might want to share party planning responsibilities with another graduate’s family. If that’s not feasible, just make it a pot luck so both the cost and the work will be shared.
Make your own invitations
Using free graduation party invitations you can find online will allow you to economize by making your own party invites. In addition to being a frugal option and they also make a fun family project.
Create the party decorations
You’d be amazed what can be accomplished by using clip art and free graduation scrapbook papers that are freely available on the Web. Images of mortarboards, diplomas or the graduation year can be used to make wall and table decorations, and the scrapbook papers can be used to make party favor wrapping paper, place mats and place cards. If you’re really crafty, you might even want to make origami favors using the scrapbook papers.
I’m sure if you put your mind to it you can find other means to stay on-budget without looking cheap. It’s all about the creativity you put into it. And it won’t hurt if you have some free graduation invitation, clip art and scrapbook paper images you can download! Using those and surrounding the graduate with friends and family who share in their joy will make the party a big success.
