Unfortunatetly, this major change is never easy to experience. For many women it involves a few years of tedious and terrible symptoms that are hard to manage and control. Some women worry a lot about how their menopausal symptoms will impact the other people that surround them. Perhaps one of the most widely recognized and heard about menopause symptoms is the “hot flash”. A hot flash is when a woman suddenly feels too hot. Your face will get flushed and you will start sweating. The feeling is temporary but it is not that different than if someone reached inside and jacked up the temperature inside of your body. Some women say that it feels the same way they feel when they leave an air conditioned room and go out into a hot and sunny day, only it is more intense. Hot flashes can occur at any point during the day or the night. Night time hot flashes are usually called “night sweats.” The irregular heartbeat is perhaps the hardest menopause symptom to find. This is when your heart will suddenly beat faster or slower without your having to do anything to prompt the change. One example is of a woman who is sitting still who feels her heart suddenly start racing and then, after a moment, it slows way way down. Some women don’t notice this when it happens. Believe it or not, for some women, this only gets discovered when their doctors are looking for other things. The doctor is doing a routine heart listen and notices the symptom. If you are the right age, this might just be a sign that you are going through menopause.
A very famous menopause symptom is irritability. Do you remember what it was like when you first started to hit puberty–how you suddenly felt cranky and irritated and annoyed by everything all the time? This is just about the same thing that a woman feels when she starts to go through the first stages of menopause. It isn’t always PMS when a woman who is normally pretty easy going starts acting like everything is annoying and irritating–especially if she is of a certain age. It could be that she has started to go through menopause.
