Creating an Acne Diet that Works for You
An acne diet sounds like a wonderful idea. Most importantly, who hasn’t heard that eating chocolate gives you zits? Almost all of us have. As a result, it doesn’t really sound that strange that you are what you eat.
But, an acne diet is a very hard thing to establish. Its very personal because it has to be based on an individuals responses to food. There are guidelines, but your progress will largely be trial and error. Observe and make note of any changes in your skin. Write down all changes. You could keep a photo journal. If and when your skin clears, stick to the diet that you were using at that time.
Here are some guidelines to get you started on an acne diet:
* Take in a lot more protein - Some dermatologists believe that protein is associated with clearer skin. Oil production is limited from an enzyme located within protein. If you have oily skin, you know that it is very vulnerable to breakouts.
* Keep away from carbohydrates - Do not take all carbs out of your diet. However you should keep them around 40 percent of your diet. This is because carbohydrates can stimulate oil production. For this reason common knowledge indicates that junk food causes acne. In reality junk food just has a high carb content.
* Try to drink green tea - If you can, drink real green tea. The best type of green tea is the kind you brew at home. However, if you really don’t like it, then try the natural green tea drinks. Green tea will restrain the production of androgen. Androgen is a hormone that will cause your skin to breakout.
* Limit your total intake of salt - Salt usually contains iodine. This is why table salt is usually called “iodized salt.” For some with acne, iodine an cause major inflammation.
In addition to watching your diet, you should carefully watch what you put on your face. If you currently have acne, you are more aware than most of what is contained in your beauty products. Use oil free moisturizers and organic skin care products. These are least likely to cause a breakout. If you wear makeup, then consider investing in mineral makeup. Many dermatologists today believe that mineral makeup can really reduce breakouts and increase the results of your acne diet.
